Running Math

1 km = 2.5 track laps

10 km = 25 track laps
10 km = 6.21 miles

7.21 min/mile = 4.5 min/km
4.5 min/km / 2.5 laps/km = 1.8 min/lap = 108 seconds/lap

END GOAL: run 25 track laps, taking 1m48s to complete each one

No big deal right?

Goal

So I've been doing some research and thinking, it would be sweet to run between 40:00 and 45:00 minutes, so this is the goal I am aiming for. It equates to about a 6.5 or 7 minute mile pace, which I think is doable if I train, and oh so painful if I slack off, hence the post. I mean, I know friends who can run it sub-40 for sure, even sub-35 minutes, but I'm just going for reasonable.

I started my first day of training today, but it was somewhat uncomfortable due to the plyometric training Jesse made me do last night at the gym! Poor life choice, although I'm definitely going to nail that 360 on the hill in less than a WEEK! The legs are sore but who doesn't love a little post-workout DOMS.

Road to the Sun Run...

Today I came to the realization that this coming year (2009) would be the first year since my arrival in Vancouver that I would in fact, be able to run the Vancouver Sun Run. Now I don't mean physically able, I mean schedule-wise, I would have that day off. Now, you might say, it's one Sunday in April, what's the big deal? Unfortunately, I have always worked Sunday afternoons, so this Spring will be my first ever opportunity to do the Sun Run, and I'm so motivated to do well.

In my haste to get myself into snowboarding shape for the upcoming season, I realized my cardio fitness could use a kick in the right direction, and what better way than to work towards a reasonable 10k run. A friend of mine once told all of his friends his fitness goals, in an attempt to ensure he didn't slack off (nothing is more embarrassing than saying you're going to do something, to then have people call you out on the fact that you didn't do a damn thing).

Something tells me that's what this little blog is about...keep me in line!
